FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol which is the term used for transferring files across networks.
Your website is basically a bunch of files that have been stored on a server and sometimes you may need to access, edit, or move those files. This is where an FTP account for your cPanel will come in handy. Follow the steps below to set this up!
Go to your cPanel
Go to Files > FTP Accounts
Give it a login name that you will remember. This will be your username when you try and connect via FTP. You can generate a password or use your own but just remember these details as well.
Under Directory, it will automatically create an extra directory but if you are setting up a website on the public_html folder (the home page URL ‘example.com.au’) then make sure you delete the generated directory.
You can leave the quota to unlimited if this is your main FTP account for setup. You can always delete the FTP account later if it is no longer needed.
Your FTP account is ready for use!
